Here at Stay the Night, we’re always sharing hostel industry news. We love to see hostels hitting the headlines, putting new digital marketing strategies into practice and generally making waves in the travel industry.
That’s why we have decided to create our very own ‘Hostel Hall of Fame’ – each month, we’ll be highlighting the online (and offline) successes of hostels around the world.
This month we decided to do a video special – with 72% of people stating they would rather use video to learn more about a brand, it’s really important for you to be incorporating it into your hostel’s digital marketing.
We’ve seen some really great videos over the last month or so and wanted to share them with you – perhaps it will give you some inspo as to how you can use video to promote your hostel too…
ABRAHAM HOSTELS CELEBRATE SUMMER SUCCESS
At the beginning of October, Abraham Hostel Jerusalem published a video on their social media platforms to celebrate their summer of adventures and fun.
Throughout the summer months, the hostel hosted a variety of exciting activities for guests including open mic events, cooking workshops, tours around the city and World Cup screenings. All of this was captured in their one minute video and it did a fantastic job of showcasing the experience on offer for travellers when they stay there.
It’s a great example of how hostels can effectively promoting the tours and activities they offer without making their followers feeling like they are being ‘sold’ too (which is a huge turn off!).

HOTS HOSTEL HEAT UP THE MARKET AS THEY OPEN THIRD PROPERTY
This next video must be one of the best ways to announce a new property opening…
Hots Hostel have released drone video footage of their brand new ‘unexplored’ location – and we love it!
It’s short and sweet but – in just a few seconds – Hots Hostel have managed to build a great deal of excitement about their next venture. The mysterious footage entices followers to find out more about the new opening and builds brand awareness around the emerging hostel chain.
Hots Hostel have shown that videos don’t have to be complicated or long winded to make a bold statement.

91 LOOP’S PRIME EXAMPLE OF A VALUABLE INFLUENCER COLLAB
Cape Town’s 91 Loop have worked with micro-influencers, ‘We Are Kinging It’, to produce a high quality video promoting what both the hostel and city has to offer.
The video shows off the hostel’s facilities, including the Honey Badger bistro where guests receive their free buffet breakfast and the outdoor terrace which is a great spot for travellers to chill out and socialise. It showcases the activities 91 Loop run for guests including group hikes, games nights and free walking tours. There are also shots of the beautiful city which help to promote Cape Town as a go-to destination.
This collaboration has been extremely valuable for 91 Loop and is a great example of how effective working with influencers can be for hostels.

PRAIADISE HOSTEL HAVE GOT THE MOVES
Praiadise Hostel’s coordinator has captured the essence of their hostel with a fun, dancing video this month – and we can’t stop watching!
The video – which was filmed on a break during a hike with guests in the Serra Da Malagueta National Park – is full of personality and shows potential guests what a great time they can have when they book here.
What we love most about this video is that it ticks so many boxes while showing that you don’t need a huge marketing budget in order to create great content. Even if you don’t have this guy’s moves, it’s possible to snap fun, behind the scenes footage like this that your audience will love.

SECRET PARTY GOES DOWN A STORM AT CASA GRACIA
Casa Gracia Barcelona – known as Mariah Carey’s favourite hostel haunt thanks to Hostelworld’s campaign earlier this year – published a video of the ‘secret’ event they hosted last month which has gone down a storm with both locals and guests.
Showing off huge queues to enter the hostel, a packed crowd and guests having a great time, Casa Gracia captured the fun atmosphere at the event perfectly. Videos like this are an extremely effective way of building anticipation and excitement for the next event and creating a buzz around your hostel.
It could also influence potential guests to book with you as they will not want to miss out on events like this.
