7 of the best hotels to work remotely from in London

Remember the days of the traditional office work model? No, we barely can either.

With many companies adopting remote work policies and employees seeking alternative workspaces outside of their homes, hotels have emerged as a popular choice for remote workers to base themselves from for the day (or longer).

It has also led to the rise of the workcation – a growing trend driving demand for hotels as travellers combine leisure with business by working remotely while on the road.

But serving remote workers and digital nomads isn’t simply a case of adding a few more tables into the lobby – it’s about curating a community and creating dedicated spaces tailored specifically to their needs.

So, who is doing it best in the UK capital? Here are 7 of the best hotels to work remotely from in London…

1. The Hoxton

The Hoxton is a series of open-house hotels with infamous lobbies that are loved by locals and guests alike.

Back in 2006, they converted a car park into their flagship hotel in London’s Shoreditch. They haven’t looked back since and now boast four properties across London and a total of 11 locations across Europe and the USA.

For remote workers in London, The Hoxton sites have become go-to spots. Their lobbies – which are packed on the daily with people working remotely – offer stylish yet convenient spaces to work from, meet up with fellow professionals and even relax with a cocktail and a bite to eat after a long day.

In 2020, they also launched Working From_ at their Southwark site. The coworking space offers members the comforts of working from home, but without the distractions. Members can work from comfy lounge areas, have access to phone booths, wireless phone charging desks, unlimited coffee and tea on tap, and regular on-site wellness activities.

Calling themselves the ‘unofficial space to work from since 2006’, we think it’s safe to say they’ve made it pretty official now.

2. Locke Hotels

As a design-focused hybrid brand, Locke Hotels’ spaces go far beyond the typical hotel lobby, providing a space to socialise, work and connect.

Creating dedicated coworking spaces in many of their properties’ lobbies, the brand has curated serene environments for creatives and professionals to catch up on emails, crack on through their to-do lists and meet with others.

Their co-working spaces are open to both guests and the public on a first come first served basis (with no daily fee) and all properties offer high-quality food and drink options.

Owned by the Edyn group, Locke Hotels currently has 5 properties across London with their sixth in Kensington opening in July.

3. TRIBE hotels

TRIBE Hotels – part of lifestyle hospitality group, Ennismore – is a series of contemporary hotels for a new breed of tech savvy, luxury loving travellers seeking affordability.

Creating design-led, budget-friendly accommodation (leaving behind the stuffy extras their guests don’t want), TRIBE opened its first UK property in London’s Canary Wharf in August 2022, bringing its portfolio to 8 properties across the world.

Targeting the modern citizen in a world where boundaries between work and play continue to blur,  it is no surprise that their space at TRIBE London Canary Wharf is ideally set up for remote workers.

The ground floor is home to the hotel’s 24-hour ‘Social Hub’ with spaces to suit everyone, whether people are there to work, play, eat, meet or simply relax.

This spot has shot up to be one of the Stay the Night team’s favourite spots to work remotely from!

4. citizenM

Hybrid hospitality leader citizenm has become well known over the past decade for serving guests who are looking to work, stay and play all under one roof.

The brand has four properties across London (and 30 across three continents in total) and each offers remote workers the ability to mix business and pleasure – whether they’re staying over or catching up on emails in the lobby for a few hours.

Their relaxed open living rooms – open to both guests and the general public – are ideal for cracking on with work alone, connecting with colleagues over coffee or anything in between. Properties have dedicated work areas with iMacs and printers available for guests and day pass buyers, with food and drinks available 24/7.

5. nHow Hotels

Dubbed as one of the artiest lifestyle hotels in the city, nhow London – their first UK property – offers a place (in Shoreditch) where city explorers and local neighbors can come together to socialise, work, discover and stay.

Owned by the NHotel Group, the property’s fluid lobby space has been designed as a vibrant hub for remote workers to work from. Whether guests want to work from one of the brand’s comfy chairs, their dedicated coworking spaces or need to book a private lab for calls or focussed work, nhow have it all ready and waiting under one roof.

The lobby blends dedicated work spaces with a bar and restaurant so if guests fancy a bite to eat or a drink of something stronger to end the day, they’ve got it covered too.

6. Mama Shelter

Accor’s Mama Shelter is known for its affordable hospitality and edgy style – and remote workers in London can enjoy everything it has to offer at its Shoreditch site.

More than simply a place to stay, Mama Shelter offers a range of amenities and services that cater to the needs of remote workers, making it an ideal spot for those looking to work away from their home (or office). With comfortable seating, high-speed Wi-Fi, and a range of amenities on offer, Mama Shelter Hotel provides everything their guests would need to stay productive and focused while working remotely.

Plus, the hotel’s trendy, eclectic decor and welcoming vibe has been referenced in a tonne of reviews from remote workers saying that the atmosphere helps boost their creativity – win!

7. The Standard

Conveniently located for workers on the move across the road from Kings Cross, The Standard’s first property outside of the US offers an ideal spot to work remotely from.

The buzzing global lifestyle hotel brand – known for its impressive international portfolio – has transformed part of their ground floor into a cosy Library Lounge space which welcomes remote workers until 6pm each day.

Once the working day is over (and hey, we don’t judge on what time that is), guests are able to relax and unwind with cocktails and nibbles in the lounge or head to one of the multiple onsite, including their rooftop restaurant (open from 7th April onwards).
