February Hostel Hall of Fame | Food & Drink Special

Here at Stay the Night, we’re always sharing hostel industry news. We love to see hostels hitting the headlines, putting new digital marketing strategies into practice and generally making waves in the travel industry.

That’s why we have decided to create our very own ‘Hostel Hall of Fame’ – each month, we’ll be highlighting the online (and offline) successes of hostels around the world.

This month is a food and beverage special!

Culinary experiences are a huge travel motivation and something travellers definitely consider when choosing which destination to head to next. On average, 72% of modern travellers prefer to try food at local restaurants when they travel rather than places they are familiar with from home. This means it is really important for you to be showcasing the kind of food and drink travellers can sample when they stay at your hostel.

From blogging about the best traditional local foods to try out to InstaStorying a cooking class at your hostel, there are a variety of different ways you can promote your foodie experience.

We’ve seen some delicious posts over the past month or so and wanted to share them with you.

AMISTAT PROMOTE ‘MUST TRY’ CATALAN DISHES

Source.

In mid-February, Amistat Hostels – a Spanish chain with hostels in Barcelona and Ibiza – published a blog post all about the ‘Traditional must try Catalan foods’ that guests should enjoy during their stay.

The informative post listed some of the unmissable dishes for travellers to try – including traditional tapas and classics like paella – and the best places they can go to get them.

A blog is a great way to improve your search engine ranking, inform travellers about your destination and inspire them to book with you. It also gives you valuable content to share on your social channels.

We also loved this recent Instagram post promoting ‘cocktail time’ at their bar.

SAILOMYEN SHARE THEIR CAFFEINE HIT

We don’t know about you but we love exploring the coffee scene of the destinations we travel to. This is why we loved Sailomyen Hostel’s video of their iced coffee this month.

Promoting their on-site cafe, Sailomyen do a great job of showing off what’s on offer at their place in Laos. From weekend brunches to quality coffee, they share high quality shots of the food and drinks guaranteed to provoke serious FOMO – especially if you’re craving a caffeine fix.

We don’t know about you, but their Instagram makes us want to hop on a flight over there straight away – we love it!

BREAKFAST IS SERVED AT THE ROCKS

Scrolling through our Instagram feed last week, our attention was caught by the new breakfast hampers which The Rocks Hostel shared on their grid.

Located in the heart of the Snowdonia National Park, The Rocks have gone above and beyond with their breakfast offering. Guests receive a delicious hamper each morning with locally sourced products.

The breakfast includes a range of ingredients including homemade bread, Welsh free range eggs, dry cured bacon and freshly roasted heartland coffee. Even better, the hamper is beautifully wrapped up with reusable packaging – delicious and environmentally friendly!

This is a great way of promoting your guest experience and showing travellers the extra little touches they can expect when staying with you.

INSTAGRAMMABLE DISHES AT THE FARM

When it comes to food and drink, we’ve probably all been guilty of taking a quick snap of a particularly Instagram-worthy meal. As you can see, there’s no filter needed for the dishes on offer at The Farm Hostel in Canggu.

From deliciously loaded nachos to avo toast to fresh fruit smoothies, The Farm’s menu is heaven for Instagrammers everywhere. Showcasing their onsite outdoor café, these shots are super high quality which is what we like to see.

It’s making us hungry just writing about it…

PARS HOST HOMEMADE GROUP DINNER

Source.

One of the main reasons travellers stay in a hostel is for the social experience on offer.

Pars Hostel in Barcelona have certainly showed their social side with their homemade group dinners for guests. The photos of their group dinner effectively showcased the warm, welcoming and friendly vibe of the hostel.

Promoting your group activities is a valuable way of informing travellers – solo travellers in particular – that they will have plenty of opportunities to meet and connect with like-minded people at your hostel.

We loved these simple yet effective shots of Pars’ group dinner – it definitely made us want to head there to sample some Spanish delicacies…
